We are keen to employ a diverse workforce that reflects the people of Scotland. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and particularly from groups currently under-represented, including people with disabilities, those from minority ethnic communities or from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
West Lothian Council are committed to far reaching changes to the way we deliver our Education Services. These changes include giving you the support and environment that you need to get on with your job and develop your abilities. Our dedication is demonstrated by the whole council achievement of the Investors in People Standard and always aiming a little higher in our service delivery and improvements.
St Mary’s RC Primary School is a denominational school serving the communities of Polbeth and West Calder. Our school community has an unwavering commitment to getting it right for every child, and we are relentless in our pursuit of positive outcomes.
In April 2025, the school received a highly positive validation of its work from His Majesty’s Inspectors of Education (HMIe). At present, the school has a roll of 172 children across seven mainstream classes and 24 children across four Enhanced Resource Base (ERB) classes. Polbeth Nursery is an integral part of our school community.
In August 2024, the school transitioned from the St Kentigern’s Cluster to St Margaret’s Academy following changes to catchment areas. We maintain strong relationships with other educational establishments, local community partners, and the parish church.
Our school management team consists of a Head Teacher (HT), part-time Depute Head Teacher (DHT), and 2 x Principal Teachers (PTs). Nursery classes are supported by Early Years Officers and nursery nurses. The wider staffing team includes class teachers, a PE specialist, Pupil Support Workers, and clerical staff.
Distributed leadership is encouraged across the school, and staff demonstrate strong collegiality and teamwork, which together help sustain a positive and nurturing learning environment.
St Mary’s continues to work closely with the Parent Council, local parish, and the wider community to enhance the experiences and opportunities available to all children.
