West Lothian Council are looking for an individual committed to the work of Kinship who are passionate about making a difference to the lives of vulnerable families. West Lothian Council are focussed on avoiding the accommodation of children and supporting families to care for children safely within their own Kinship network. You’ll bring excellent relationship-building, communication, and organisational skills, as well as be able to work on your own initiative and collaboratively with partners. You will have proven experience of working with families, particularly those in more disadvantaged circumstances.  You will be expected to provide Kinship Carers with emotional and practical support (including supporting contact), training, and peer-to-peer support and raise awareness of the work of The Kinship Support Service. You will be empowering Kinship carers to work with other agencies, advocating and supporting them throughout.

You will be working in a busy and supportive Family Based Care Service and contribute to kinship assessments alongside the social workers within the team.  You will be involved in My Planning Meetings, Children’s Hearings and any other relevant meetings.

You must have an HNC in Social Care & SVQ Level III

This position requires registration with the SSSC.  The successful candidate will have six months from the date of commencement of this post to become registered with the SSSC.  SSSC stipulate you must submit your application within three months of your start date.  If you are already registered with SSSC you will be required to add West Lothian Council to your account

This post is considered Regulated Work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scotland Act 2007. From 28 February 2011 preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council
