Pinewood School is a special school which provides children and young people who have additional learning needs an opportunity to access high quality learning and teaching.  The curriculum is designed and adapted to meet the diverse needs of individual learners. The school is based in the village of Blackburn and has strong community links. The school has both a primary and a secondary department.

During the session 2025/2026 the school roll is 160 pupils, with staffing - Head Teacher, Depute Head Teacher, 3 Principal Teachers, 24 members of the teaching staff and a team of 74 pupil support workers.

We are looking for enthusiastic, hardworking and reliable individuals to join our support team as Advanced Pupil Support Worker to support learning and teaching.  Under the teacher’s direction they will work within the learning environment to support pupil learning, organise resources and carry out duties relating to pupil pastoral support.  They will promote an ethos of achievement through the development of positive relationships and will have due regard for the health and safety of the young people they are working with.

This position requires registration with the SSSC. The successful candidate will have six months from the date of commencement of this post to become registered with the SSSC. SSSC stipulate you must submit your application within three months of your start date.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.
