Clifton Hall School is a fully independent Nursery, Primary and Secondary School, accommodating 400 children between the ages of three and eighteen. Situated in fifty acres of its own delightful countryside grounds on the western outskirts of Edinburgh, Clifton Hall has been educating children for over 90 years.

THE POST

TEACHER OF COMPUTING SCIENCE & IT - part time post from August 2026 (0.8 FTE)

The successful candidate for this post will be confident teaching Computing at all levels up to and including Advanced Higher, preparing pupils thoroughly for examinations. Specialist teachers also teach in the Junior School, candidates will be expected to deliver Junior ICT from primary 4 upwards.

The successful candidate will be directly responsible to the Curriculum Leader and Depute Headteacher Senior School.

1.Role Purpose

The Part-time Computing Science and IT Teacher will deliver high-quality teaching in line with GTCS Professional Standards, including the Standard for Full Registration and national expectations for teacher professionalism. These standards highlight professional values such as social justice, trust, respect and integrity, and underpin careerlong professional learning and reflective practice.

The post-holder will be responsible for the planning and delivery of the Computing Science and IT courses, including the Junior provision.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Teaching & Learning

  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons aligned with Curriculum for Excellence and school policies for Junior School and Senior School pupils.
  • Assess, record and report on pupil progress using appropriate assessment strategies.
  • Maintain positive discipline, ensure pupil safety and support wellbeing.
  • Support pupils' cognitive, social and emotional development, reflecting the GTCS Professional Standards.

B. Pastoral Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with pupils, consistent with GTCS values.
  • Provide pastoral support where required, modelling respectful, supportive and inclusive professional behaviour.

C. Professionalism & Collegiate Working

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers and wider partners to support learning and achievement.
  • Engage actively in professional learning, reflective practice and GTCS Professional Update processes.
  • Contribute to departmental development, curriculum planning and improvement processes.

D. Cocurricular & Wider School Contribution

  • Make a meaningful contribution to the school’s extra curricular programme.
  • Help promote a positive school ethos through participation in events, supporting trips and assisting with school community activities.

3. Required Qualifications & Registration

  • Full GTCS Registration is essential.
  • Membership of the PVG Scheme for work with children is required.

HOLIDAYS

Teachers are entitled to normal school holidays. Currently the school operates for 177 full days and up to four in service days per annum.
