Edinburgh College is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified British Sign Language Lecturer.
We are looking for an experienced British Sign Language lecturer to deliver our Introduction to BSL evening courses from March 2026, and ideally also be able to teach level 1 and 2 courses.
You will be educated to degree level or equivalent and hold a BSL qualification at level 6 or equivalent. You will have recent experience of teaching BSL, developing teaching materials and assessing learners.
You will identify as being part of the Deaf Community and as such have a sound knowledge and understanding of the culture and history. British Sign Language (BSL) is far more than a means of communication, it is a cornerstone of the rich and vibrant Deaf culture. Learning BSL from a Deaf tutor offers students an immersive experience that goes beyond vocabulary and grammar. It provides authentic insights into lived experiences, cultural nuances, and context that only a native user can share. We also open to considering an application from a CODA (child of a Deaf adult) to teach the introduction level courses.
The successful candidate will be based at Sighthill campus.
Please find a link to a video which provides an overview of the job description.
We operate a guaranteed interview scheme and open this to BME groups, people living with a disability, the care experienced and Armed forces veterans - if you meet the essential criteria, you will automatically be selected for an interview.
Please note that the successful candidate may be required to work at any Edinburgh College campus.
Please see the Job Description and Person Specification for further details.
Provisional Interview Date: Wednesday 4th February 2026
