About the Role
You will work collaboratively with Lecturers to maximise a psychologically safe learning environment, supporting teaching staff and students across programmes to promote engagement, confidence and progression.
The role provides in-class support and short-term supervision of learning, operating in partnership with lecturers and within clear professional boundaries. Lecturers retain responsibility for subject delivery, assessment and academic judgement, while the Learning Engagement Coach contributes through encouragement, signposting and inclusive learning strategies.
Key Responsibilities
· Classroom support and management
o Support lecturers to create calm, structured and inclusive learning environments.
· Support for additional and complex needs
o Provide tailored support for students with additional support needs, including neurodiversity, mental health needs and barriers to learning.
· Compassionate and trauma informed practice
o Support students using trauma informed approaches that prioritise safety, trust and dignity.
· Skills coaching element
o Support development of study skills, organisation, resilience and employability behaviours.
· Partnership working
o Work closely with lecturing staff to understand session aims and learner needs.

Qualifications and Experience
- Essential:
- Educated to level SCQF Level 7 in a relevant discipline
- Experience supporting learners in educational, youth work, community or training settings.
- Understanding of additional support needs and inclusive practice.
- Desirable:
- Qualification in learning support, youth work, social care, education support or similar.
- Experience in college or vocational environments.
- Training in trauma informed practice, neurodiversity or mental health awareness.
Skills and Attributes
- Essential:
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
- Ability to de-escalate situations and support positive behaviour.
- Skilled in working with individuals and small groups.
- Patient, calm and consistent.
