Based within the Learning Centre at HMP Kilmarnock

We are looking to recruit a Tutor who is passionate about delivering quality learning across the curriculum. The main focus of delivery would be core skills/numeracy and IT (31.5 hours per week) and Project based/creative (14 hours per week).

Creating a positive learning atmosphere encouraging learner interest, motivation and achievement are essential in this role in order to support learners in the achievement of their short and long-term aspirations.

As well as delivering and assessing approved SQA qualifications up to and including SCQF level 5 and accredited and non-accredited qualifications, you will update learning materials as required to meet learners’ needs and interests within the context of the prison environment.

Educated to a minimum HNC or equivalent (SCQF Level 7) in relevant area, you should also hold a qualification in SALL (Supporting Adult Literacy Learners) SCQF level 6 or other community-based learning qualification, or, be willing to work towards this qualification. A knowledge of SQA frameworks is essential.

You should have experience in working with offenders or hard to reach learners. Effective communication and time management skills are essential as well as enthusiasm for your professional discipline, being approachable, supportive, self-motivated and flexible.

As mentioned, this position is based within a prison setting, therefore the successful candidates will be required to complete mandatory in-house SPS Training, which includes classroom work as well as scenario based physical movements for self-defence purposes.
