Based at Falkirk Campus (although travel to other campuses will be expected)
Fixed-term to June 2025
The Department of Care, Sport, Business & Communities wish to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic Active Campus Coordinator within Forth Valley College. The purpose of this role is to promote and facilitate the delivery of sport and physical activity on campus, contributing to the health and well-being of students, staff and the community. This role will encourage and empower the student population to be more active more often whilst in college education.
The Key Responsibilities of the role are to:
- Drive the content of and progress against the Active Campus plan, in conjunction with local steering group and national network(s).
- Provide opportunities for increasing numbers of the college community to participate regularly in physical activity and sport, with special focus on the least active groups.
- Work closely with internal and external partners to offer referral routes into Physical Activity and Sport.
- Engage widely to design activities that suit the college, campus and community, ensuring work is well researched and informed by industry trends and local needs.
- Promote the benefits that sport and physical activity can have on the physical, mental and social health of the population.
- Advise the college on the resource needs (people, places, programmes) to achieve the outcomes in their Active Campus plan.
- Actively support clear and positive pathways between school, college, university and the wider community.
- Prepare quarterly reports on engagement with sport and physical activity to present to the college and key partners.
- Increase sport and physical activity opportunities for underrepresented groups.
Requirements
As part of this role, you will be liaising with both internal (Forth Valley College staff, management, Students Association) and external stakeholders (Community sports hubs, clubs and groups, Local schools, including Active Schools staff, SportScotland, Scottish Student Sport (SSS), Active Campus staff in other institutions; Local NHS providers; SAMH and other relevant charities; Scottish Governing Bodies of Sport and a range of physical activity organisations).
In order to carry out these responsibilities, you will be:
Educated to at least degree level (or equivalent) with minimum of 2 years’ experience in sports development or a related discipline. It would be desirable that you possess an understanding of the Scottish sport, health, and tertiary education sectors and that you currently (or have previously) worked in a further/higher education setting. Other qualifications, such as Level 2 gym qualification, sports coaching qualifications and child protection, mental health and disability inclusive training are also desirable, as would current CIMSPA membership.
You will also be able to demonstrate:
- Outstanding communication skills with special focus on presenting and facilitation.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Empathy with students.
- A willingness to undertake on-the-job training.
- Computer literacy skills; confidence and competence with social media.
- Experience of running sports clubs and other groups, especially including volunteers.
- Monitoring and evaluation skills for audit and evaluation of service.
- Planning of own work schedule to ensure primary responsibilities are carried out.
- Maintaining relationships and work effectively with a range of internal and external partners.
- Experience of Support, guidance and coordination of volunteers.
- Budgetary responsibility, within existing institution structure and systems
- Possession of a full, clean driving license.
