The Glasgow Academy is a high-achieving co-educational independent day school for children aged 3-18.

The Post
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Early Years practitioner to join our Nursery and Kindergarten at our Kelvinbridge campus.
Applicants to the post should be qualified to or working towards achieving BA Early Education & Childcare/ Childcare Practice or equivalent. The post requires a motivated and innovative person to work with our 3 - 5 year old children.
A nurturing manner and the ability to create a stimulating, dynamic learning environment for our children is essential. Candidates must also be up to date with current practice and familiar with GIRFEC, Realising the Ambition, HGIOELC and the Curriculum for Excellence, including the Benchmarks at the Early Stage.
Key Responsibilities
- To adhere to the School’s Child Protection policy at all times, raising any potential or actual issues on an appropriate basis
- To attend Child Protection training sessions in line with the School’s policy
- To observe and implement the policies of the Nursery and Kindergarten and The Glasgow Academy
- To create creative, safe, and stimulating learning environments and experiences for all children, both indoors and out
- To contribute to a positive ethos across the Nursery and Kindergarten and wider school settings
- To build positive, nurturing and inclusive relationships with all children and families across the setting
- To provide nurturing and supportive experiences for all children, according to their developmental age and stage
- To promote early literacy, early numeracy and health and wellbeing through play-based learning
- To observe and record the progress of all children in either the Nursery and Kindergarten room on a 2-week rotation
- To liaise effectively with, and foster strong relationships and working partnerships with families, staff, and external agencies in order to support the individual needs of each child
- To contribute to confidential observations and summative reports as required
- To comply with standards set by the Care Inspectorate to ensure the care and welfare of all children
- To participate in the School’s system of Professional Review and Development
- To attend staff meetings as required by the Head of Nursery and Kindergarten
- To attend all School In-service days
- To attend Nursery and Kindergarten and or School events as required by the Head of Nursery and Kindergarten
- To ensure that everyone is treated as individuals with respect and full consideration, in line with the school’s Equal Opportunity Policy
- To work within any of the three school sites to meet the needs of the service.
Other Duties
- To always promote and support the ethos of The Glasgow Academy
- To undertake any other duties as the Head of Nursery and Kindergarten may reasonably request
- To carry out any other similar and appropriate duties as required.
Qualifications
- Early Years Childcare qualification as recognised by SSSC
- Current registration as a practitioner with the SSSC or ability to apply from commencement of employment
- Additional relevant qualifications.

- Experience of working collaboratively within a nursery setting
- Ongoing evidence of relevant career long professional learning

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute positively to the school ethos
- Ability to communicate clearly and confidently, and to be sensitive and supportive to others
- Ability to interact with children in a sensitive and nurturing manner
- Ability to plan, implement and evaluate an appropriate play-based curriculum and environment for children age 3-5
- Strong working knowledge of IT systems

Remuneration and Hours of Work
The hours of work are from Monday to Friday 8.00am - 1.00pm each day, 25 hours per week (break of 15 min unpaid per day), all term time.
Salary: £15,968
