The Glasgow Academy seeks to appoint an outstanding individual for the position of Head of Senior School.

The Glasgow Academy is a highly successful independent, co-educational day school located in the West of Scotland. Founded in 1845, it is the oldest, continuously fully independent school in Glasgow.

It educates pupils aged 3 to 18 across Nursery, Prep and Senior Schools. The Academy currently has around 1680 pupils, including 849 in the Prep School and 831 in the Senior School.

The Academy operates within a competitive marketplace containing leading state and independent schools. The school offers first-class teaching and learning experiences on well-resourced campuses which leads to excellence in SQA examination outcomes, pupil wellbeing and co-curricular programme.

Following impressive examination results, The Academy topped The Times’ league table for national academic rankings in 2023 for all Scottish exam qualifications. The new Head of Senior School will inherit a sector-leading independent senior school, with a strong pioneering culture and you will have the personal drive to create your own legacy of excellence, developing the Senior School for the next generation.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a current or aspiring Head to lead a very special senior school with a unique and strong personality. We are seeking a leader who combines personal warmth and integrity with a strategic mindset, to enable The Academy to evolve culturally, technologically, and educationally whilst retaining its strong ethos and values.

The person will lead with a high degree of authenticity to establish meaningful relationships with pupils, parents, staff, Governors, former pupils and our wider community.

The new Head of Senior School will play a major role on the Senior Leadership Team, supporting the Rector, Deputy Rector and Board of Governors in leading The Glasgow Academy strategically. You will provide visionary leadership and will demonstrate exemplary management skills in the day to day running of the Senior School.
