Glasgow Caledonian University is looking for a motivated and results driven Events Manager to oversee the delivery of a wide range of engaging on-campus and online events.
About the Role
As Recruitment and Conversion Events Manager, you will be responsible for designing, coordinating and delivering engaging and impactful recruitment events such as our which convert prospective students into applicants and applicants to enrolled students. You will manage all aspects of the event planning and execution, from small events such as our weekly campus tours to our large Undergraduate Open Days with over 5,000 visitors, while ensuring a memorable experience for visitors reflecting the values and vision of Glasgow Caledonian University.
Reporting to the Recruitment Conversion Manager, you will manage a small, dedicated team supported by a large group of student ambassadors who play a key role in delivering our events. Your work will require collaboration with academic and professional colleagues across the institution as well as external partners.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead the planning, organisation, and delivery of in-person and virtual recruitment events, including Open Days, Applicant Days, and Conversion Events.
- Working in collaboration with Recruitment Managers, develop engaging event programmes tailored to prospective students at various stages of their decision-making journey.
- Manage, motivate, and train a team comprising one direct report and a pool of student ambassadors.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (academic departments, marketing teams, support services) to ensure effective event delivery.
- Monitor event budgets, ensuring cost-effective solutions while maintaining quality and impact.
- Develop and deliver evaluation processes, analysing event performance and providing recommendations for improvement.
- Lead on innovative approaches to digital and virtual event delivery, enhancing accessibility and engagement.
- Manage event communications, including invitations, schedules, and post-event follow-ups, in collaboration with the Marketing team.
- Maintain high standards of customer service, ensuring all visitors have a positive and memorable experience.
Essential Experience:
Candidates must have experience in planning and managing in-person and online events, ideally within a higher education or a customer-facing sector. They should demonstrate strong leadership skills, including experience managing or mentoring staff and volunteers and have excellent organisational and project management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple events simultaneously and delegate effectively. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders and audiences is important, as is a proactive and innovative mind set with the ability to find creative solutions and improve processes.
Desirable Experience:
Preferably, applicants will have experience working within the higher education sector, showcasing a deep understanding of its trends and challenges together with an understanding of the student recruitment journey and the importance of events in driving student conversion throughout that journey.
