The Safeguarding Health through Infection Prevention (SHIP) research group sits between the Departments of Nursing and Community Health Biological and Biomedical. This group is a multidisciplinary team of researchers, including nurses, microbiologists, and epidemiologists, committed to developing evidence-based clinical practice. As part of the Research Centre for Health, we have an active and diverse portfolio of research activities that aim to work in partnership with the public, patients, clinical staff, service management and commercial partners - to safeguard against infection and enhance the quality of patient care and improve population health.

The role will involve undertaking prospective surveillance and phenotypic and genotypic characterisation of the pathogenic yeast Candida auris in Scotland. In parallel, this project will investigate the optimal methods of controlling C. auris on hospital associated surfaces. The successful candidate will be expected to work between GCU, UWS (Hamilton campus) and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (Royal Infirmary).

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced individual to deliver an externally funded research post working within the Safeguarding Health through Infection Prevention (SHIP) research group. The role is 5 days per week (1.0FTE) for a period of eighteen months. The successful candidate should be educated to at least a PhD qualification or near completion desirable. The individual should have extensive experience of clinical project management and working within a research laboratory, with previous knowledge and experience working and manipulating fungal biofilms desirable. The job role will require frequently liaising with  NHS and academic partners and for outputs, impacts and objectives to be delivered in timely and efficient manner. It requires previous experience of both oral and written scientific communication.
