Glasgow Caledonian – the largest and leading modern university in Scotland - is a vibrant, values-led university with campuses in the heart of Glasgow and London. With a strong commitment to high quality education and research which supports the communities we serve, we have strong partnerships with employers to ensure our students get the careers they dream of and deserve.

Named UK Modern University of the Year for Graduate Jobs in the latest Daily Mail University Guide, and the top-ranked UK modern university in the Times and Sunday Times Guide 2026, we are a UK top 40 university according to these highly regarded guides. With a wide range of professionally accredited courses and links with over 300 industry partners, we are the top university in Scotland for students in employment and/or further study within 15 months of graduating at 92% - with 78% of graduates in highly skilled occupations (HESA 2025). Our modern campuses support nearly 23,000 students from 119 countries.

Our research is addressing many of today’s biggest global challenges. We are unsurpassed by any other Scottish modern university for the level of research (72%) considered to be world leading or internationally excellent, and our health research is surpassed only by King’s College London for outstanding impact (REF2021).

Guided by our values – integrity, responsibility, creativity and confidence - we transform the lives of the people and communities we serve.

GCU’s Research Centre for Health

The School of Health & Life Sciences (SHLS) is one of three Glasgow-based academic schools at GCU and brings together eight departments: Biological and Biomedical Sciences; Nursing and Community Health; Occupational Therapy and Human Nutrition and Dietetics; Physiotherapy and Paramedicine; Podiatry and Radiography; Psychology; Social Work and Vision Sciences.

SHLS is home to the Research Centre for Health (ReaCH). ReaCH has an international reputation for delivering high impact research. In the Research Excellence Framework assessment (2021) 91% of GCU’s health related research was formally classified as world-leading or internationally excellent. Moreover, the impact of GCU’s applied health research was classified as ‘outstanding’ and surpassed by only one other UK institution. The University's outstanding record for delivering impact for the common good against the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals was also highlighted in the THE Global Impact Rankings with GCU 1st in Scotland for SDG3, good health and wellbeing.

Role

The role being advertised is Research Assistant for the EVERLONG study, which is funded by the Chief Scientist Office in Scotland. EVERLONG will externally validate an existing pelvic floor dysfunction risk prediction tool, so that it can be used more widely. The study, lasting 21 months, will involve an online survey of women who have given birth in Scotland who are registered with SHARE (Scottish Health Research Register & Biobank), and linkage of their survey responses to their routine-collected Scottish health data held by the Health Informatic Centre (HIC) at University of Dundee.

Responsibilities

The postholder will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of all aspects of the EVERLONG study, including supporting ethical approval processes. They will work with the Chief Investigator to ensure the study is meeting targets, is producing meaningful outputs and to predict and plan any changes that warrant requests to changes in protocol, ethics, funding or time. They will manage all aspects of the online survey during the study, working closely with SHARE and HIC, and will also liaise with the study researchers and study oversight committees: planning and supporting project meetings, preparing reports and presenting findings as required.

Postholder

We are seeking an individual with a relevant degree who has experience in coordinating large research projects and working with large research databases. They will have knowledge of guidelines relating to Good Clinical Practice, Research and Clinical Governance, Data Protection and ethical considerations. Experience of gaining NHS ethical approval is desirable. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential, as is proficiency in using Word, Excel and Outlook.

If you would like to discuss the post, please email Suzanne Hagen, Professor of Health Services Research, at s.hagen@gcu.ac.uk to arrange a call.
