Economics and Law is an interdisciplinary department in the Glasgow School for Business and Society with a particular focus on impactful, policy-oriented research and engagement. In the past, it hosted various EC and UKRI funded projects under the leadership of professor Umut Korkut. At the moment, the department hosts the UKRI-funded research project OppAttune: Countering Oppositional Political Extremism Through Attuned Dialogue: Track, Attune, Limit.

The role holder will contribute to research on accountability at GSBS, including its legislative and judicial aspects as well as accountability to civil society and international organisations. They will join a larger research grouping at GSBS led by professor Umut Korkut on democracy, accountability, illiberalism and extremism in Europe. They will prepare and write literature reviews on issues in relation to accountability and crisis of democracy. They will need to collaborate with the GSBS research group on democracy and accountability for publication of research findings as articles, book chapters, and books.

We are looking for candidates who hold a postgraduate degree in Social Sciences including political science, law or international relations. They should be experienced with doing literature reviews and working with large datasets to include qualitative and quantitative data. Research expertise in a European political setting beyond the UK supported by language skills is also a requirement for this role. It is essential that they are ready to join a research team as effective members to work with international partners. While it is not essential, the candidates can hold a PhD in political science, law or international relations. It is also desirable that they have previous experience with developing impact case studies for international research projects involving labour economics, polarisation, socio-economic inequalities.
