The Directorate of School Professional Services (SPS) provides support for three Academic Schools; Registry, Technical Services and Administration teams. The directorates focus is to provide an outstanding service to all our users supporting and enhancing the student experience.

SPS Technical Services (School of Science and Engineering) is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Technician to support the delivery of GCU programmes in Chemical Sciences. The successful candidate will be a core member of a Technical Team providing practical laboratory support to the teaching activities within the department to ensure our students and staff have an excellent experience within a quality multidisciplinary technical service.

The successful candidate will undertake technical responsibilities within the subject areas of Chemical Sciences to support Undergraduate practical labs and research. Essential skills, expertise and work experience required within the subject area will include:

• Organic and In-Organic Chemistry.
• Analytical and Wet Chemical techniques.

Knowledge of Health & Safety including the following:-

• Maintenance of Inventories including stock up-dates and waste disposal routes.
• Support for physical and instrumental analytical chemistry, chemical analysis and organic chemistry.
• Support the health and safety aspects of the programme and School, including the use of, and disposal of, hazardous substances and the maintenance of an up-to-date inventory for the School.

Other essential criteria for the role includes:

• Excellent organisational skills and problem-solving abilities
• Evidence of being able to work flexibly and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Ability to maintain clear and accurate records, collate, interpret and organise and upload data.
• Experience of working to regulatory Health and Safety processes/procedures including COSHH and Risk Assessments.
• Ability to manage and prioritise conflicting workloads.

This role is critical for the smooth functioning of the School of Science and Engineering, and it offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of science education and research.
