Glasgow Kelvin College is the key provider of accessible vocational and core-skills learning in the north and east of the city. We deliver high-quality introductory to degree-level programmes to around 15,000 students each year from four campus buildings and through a large network of community-based centres. Engaging with communities which experience high levels of deprivation, the College works with partners to create inclusive progression opportunities in a vibrant and sustainable environment for the learners, communities and stakeholders which we serve.

About You: You will be required to primarily support the wellbeing of ESOL learners, providing a single point of contact from time of application to completion of course. You will help to ensure a smooth learning journey by removing barriers to accessing support to support the learners’ positive wellbeing, working in partnership with other key support services within the College and with relevant external agencies.

The post holder will be required to:-

· Provide impartial information and advice to prospective and current students, including pastoral guidance

· Arrange and participate in pre-entry guidance interviews as necessary;

· Provide one to one support through on-going advice and guidance throughout the learner journey including arranging and participating in pre-entry guidance interviews

· Liaise with the Finance and Student Funding Manager in relation to financial support for students;

· Signposting learners to relevant and appropriate College services with the aim of promoting and maintaining the learners’ health and wellbeing;

· Deliver presentations and talks to designated groups both within and out with the College;

· Perform a range of key administrative student support tasks related to admissions, enrolment, funding applications, bursary, travel, childcare and the discretionary fund;

· Link with community partners to enrol learners in wider access provision and explore and engage in volunteering opportunities;

· Co-ordinate written and personal applications leading to post course positive destination in liaison with cross college curriculum, other training providers or prospective employers

The post holder should be educated to HNC (SCQF level 7) and possess evidence of appropriate CPD with knowledge of systems and processes in place to support students to access further education.

The post holder should have knowledge of dealing with student issues within FE in relation to asylum seekers, economic migrants and members of settled communities and the barriers they may face in accessing education. In addition, the post holder should have knowledge of external support agencies and their operation such as Department of Works and Pensions, Housing Associations, JobCentrePlus, Social Care and Health Care.
