THE OPPORTUNITY
The High School of Glasgow is seeking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Alumni Relations and Development Officer to join the External Relations office.
ALUMNI RELATIONS AND DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

Location: The High School of Glasgow Senior School
Salary: £33,000 - £35,000 (dependent on experience)
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To build and sustain a vibrant, engaged alumni community and provide dedicated administrative and operational support to the school's fundraising programme. This role is the primary relationship holder for alumni and community engagement, and the operational backbone of the Development function, allowing the Director of External Relations to focus on major gift cultivation and campaign leadership.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Alumni Relations and Events
• Manage and develop the school's alumni engagement programme, including decade class reunions, annual HSOG Homecoming Day, Business Breakfast series, Business Networking and other HSOG community events.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for alumni, responding to enquiries and maintaining warm, consistent relationships across the community.
• Maintain and continually improve the accuracy and completeness of the alumni database (Veracross), including updating of records, managing GDR compliance and running regular data hygiene processes.
• Produce alumni communications including newsletters, email campaigns and social content; support the planning and delivery of the annual alumni magazine, Sursum Semper.
• Coordinate and develop the global alumni groups programme, identifying and supporting ambassadors, establishing global communities and supporting international events.
• Lead the relaunch of HSOG Lifelong Connections on LinkedIn and the HSOG Community website as the year-round digital home of HSOG engagement, managing a regular content rhythm and community connections through the platforms.
• Support careers mentoring and volunteering initiatives involving alumni and parents with current pupils.
Fundraising Administration
• Provide administrative support for all Development campaigns, including correspondence, gift processing and donor acknowledgements.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records in the Veracross, ensuring every interaction is logged promptly and GDPR compliance is maintained throughout.
• Support the Director with prospect research, briefing materials and contributing to the identification and qualification of new major gift prospects.
• Manage routine stewardship tasks including impact updates, gift acknowledgements and recognition activity, ensuring donors receive timely, personal communication.
• Assist in preparing materials for donor meetings, cultivation events and campaign communications.
Community and Volunteering
• Recruit, coordinate and support alumni and parent volunteers across mentoring, events and community engagement activities.
• Support community engagement initiatives that connect the school’s wider network with current pupils and the school’s mission.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Skills & Experience
• Highly organised with strong administrative and project management skills and the ability to manage a varied workload across multiple workstreams.
• Confident events delivery experience with the ability to plan, coordinate and execute events of different scales and formats throughout the year.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write warmly and professionally for different audiences.
• Proficiency in database management and Microsoft Office.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a natural ability to build relationships and represent the School with warmth and credibility.
• Experience in a relationship management, events or fundraising support role.
Essential
• Degree-level education or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrable commitment to community building and relationship management.
Desirable
• Experience in alumni relations, fundraising or membership organisations.
• Connection to or understanding of the independent school community.
• Experience supporting prospect research or donor pipeline activity.
