Regius is an independent Christian school serving 35 primary‑aged children, located near Edinburgh’s Newcraighall station. Established in 1986, the school’s vision is to provide “Christian Education to Transform a Generation.” With small class sizes, pupils are able to learn at a pace that suits them, and their unique gifts and abilities are recognised, nurtured, and developed within a caring and inspiring environment.

Our close‑knit team of professional Christian educators work collaboratively to ensure every child is supported educationally, physically, and spiritually. Alongside a strong commitment to academic excellence, Regius places high value on worship, prayer, and a culture of honour that underpins all aspects of school life.

We are seeking a dedicated and visionary Headteacher to join our team, working Monday to Friday for between 21 and 35 hours per week. Applications for a part‑time Headteacher are warmly welcomed, with salary calculated on a pro‑rata basis.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about advancing Christian education and committed to nurturing a school culture rooted in faith, honour, and excellence. They will bring extensive experience of working with primary‑aged children and a strong understanding of the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence, which underpins our teaching and learning.

The main responsibilities of the School Headteacher are to:

  • Translate the Regius vision into clear objectives and operational plans, modelling the school’s vision and values in daily practice.
  • Provide leadership and direction to our teaching staff, which comprises of part-time teachers, learning assistants and an administrator.
  • Foster and uphold a culture of honour, respect and good behaviour throughout the school community.
  • Evaluate the school’s performance, identify priorities for continuous improvement, and drive the raising of standards. This includes maintaining the School Improvement Plan and reporting progress to the Board.
  • Lead strategically on curriculum development, learning and teaching, and meeting learners’ needs, promoting the sharing of best practice across the school.
  • Work closely with the Directors of the School Board to enable them to meet their responsibilities.
  • Perform the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead for the school.
  • Fulfil commitments arising from contractual accountability to the governing body.
  • Maintain an effective partnership with parents to support and enhance pupil’s achievement and personal development.
  • Lead and promote the continuing professional development of all staff.

At Regius School, the Headteacher also serves as a working teacher. We aim to align each teacher’s strengths with the age groups they support, so your particular skillset will be considered carefully during the recruitment process. This role involves teaching in a composite environment and working across multiple class levels from P1 to S2.

You must have a current Full Primary education GTCS registration. It is desirable, but not essential, that you have already completed Designated Safeguarding Lead training. Successful applicants will be required to become a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme member in respect of Regulated Work with Children.

Previous Senior Leadership experience as a Principal Teacher or Depute Head would be beneficial for this post. Experience of supporting children with Additional Support Needs would also be advantageous for the post.
