Job Summary

You will work within the central IT & Digital department, supporting the AI and Automation Capability project by identifying, analysing, and mapping business processes, and developing digital automation solutions using Microsoft technologies. This is part of a small team that will work across schools and departments within the University, and will work alongside the Project Manager, Business Analyst and Senior Integrations Developer, who will guide and assist setting objectives and project goals. You will report to the Web and Applications Team Leader. This role is ideal for a graduate or skilled individual with a passion for digital transformation, process improvement, and low-code development platforms.

You will demonstrate strong self‑motivation, with the ability to investigate issues, learn independently, and apply solutions with minimal guidance. You will need to show confidence in finding answers and making progress in a fast‑paced IT role.

Job Description

RESPONSIBLE TO: Web and Applications Team Leader

RESPONSIBLE FOR: No line management responsibilities

PURPOSE OF POST: Support the AI and Automation Capability project by identifying, analysing, and mapping business processes, and developing digital automation solutions using Microsoft technologies.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Process Analysis & Design

- Collaborate with stakeholders across the University to gather and document current working practices.

- Map and analyse business processes to identify opportunities for automation and improvement.

- Liaise with colleagues to avoid duplication and ensure alignment with existing analysis efforts.

- Contribute to the process discovery phase and prioritisation of automation opportunities.

Automation Development

- Design, develop, test, and deploy automation workflows using Microsoft Power Platform (PowerApps, Power Automate, Power BI).

- Support the implementation and launch of RPA solutions using tools such as Power Automate.

- Create and maintain technical documentation and end-user guides.

- Ensure quality assurance of automation solutions and support production troubleshooting when required.

Integration & Application Support

- Work with development teams to ensure proper implementation and integration of solutions.

- Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and contribute to the evolution of the University’s digital environment.

Collaboration & Communication

- Work directly with Process Analysts, Business Analysts, Product Owners, and cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions.

- Provide technical support and guidance to end-users and contribute to internal training initiatives.

 

Person Specification

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Professional Memberships

- A first degree in a relevant subject (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Technology).

- Alternatively, significant relevant experience with a demonstrable track record.

Knowledge and skills

- Understanding of process analysis and mapping methodologies.

- Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform, SharePoint, and low-code development.

- Basic programming knowledge (e.g. HTML).

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

- Excellent communication and documentation skills.

- Initiative and creativity in problem-solving.

- Commitment to service delivery and continuous improvement.

- Ability to plan and organise resources effectively.

Experience

- Experience of building processes and/or applications within MS Power Platform.

- Exposure to AI concepts and cognitive platforms.

- Understanding of workflow-based logic and integrated development environments (e.g., GIT).

Experience

- Experience with Agile development methodologies.

- Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems.
