The School of Pharmacy, Applied Sciences and Public Health are looking to recruit a Laboratory Assistant who will aid with the preparation of materials required for the School’s teaching and research laboratories. As such you will need to have an interest in working with students and researchers within the School of Pharmacy, Applied Sciences and Public Health, as well as knowledge of laboratory equipment/materials and experience of working in a similar environment.

Job Description
RESPONSIBLE TO: Technical Resource Manager
RESPONSIBLE FOR: No supervisory responsibility
PURPOSE OF THE POST: Aid with the preparation of materials and laboratory cleaning required for the School's teaching and research laboratories.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Aid with the preparation and clearing away of glassware, apparatus, materials and biological waste required for skills and food handling laboratories.
Maintain designated areas to ensure that they are both clean and tidy prior to and after use.
Clean and sterilise designated glassware.
Load and unload washing machine and dishwashers
Ensure that stock cupboards in the designated laboratories are replenished (including the food pantry) are kept tidy and all items are appropriately labelled.
Photocopy materials required for coursework sessions.
Assist in ensuring safe working practices at all times within laboratories.
Any other relevant duties, which may be delegated by the Dean of School or Technical Resource Manager.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge
Knowledge of effective cleaning and organisation.
Experience
Experience of working in a similar role.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge
Knowledge of Laboratory equipment/materials
Knowledge of health and safety procedures.
Experience
Experience in working in higher education.
Experience in working with hazardous materials
