Job Summary

The School of Pharmacy, Applied Sciences and Public Health is a vibrant academic and clinical skills community that provides a variety of science and clinical education in the North East of Scotland. The School is housed in a state-of-the-art building designed to provide a stimulating and enjoyable learning experience.

We are looking for a highly professional, enthusiastic and committed individual to join our team as a part time (0.5 FTE) lecturer for a three year fixed period. You will support the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in pharmacy, pharmaceutical science and forensic analysis.

You will have a doctorate in Forensic Chemistry (or a related area for example Analytical Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry) and /or significant teaching experience in the subject area. You will also be expected to have experience in the use of analytical instrumentation used in the field of pharmaceutical / forensic analysis.

You will be expected to contribute to the teaching and administration of the School’s portfolio of courses, including Pharmacy, Forensic and Analytical Science at undergraduate level, Pharmaceutical Science and Analytical Sciences at postgraduate level. You will complement existing research/teaching activities in the above area within the school and will be encouraged to develop your own research in conjunction with other members of the School.

Grade 7 Salary Scale: £39,906 – 46,049
Grade 8 Salary Scale: £47,389 – 56,535
Salary on appointment will be dependent upon experience.

Candidates with limited or no prior experience as an academic will be placed on the first point of the Grade 7 scale. Consideration will be given to offering an Academic Attraction Payment (adjusted annually) for those candidates who have specific industry knowledge, skills or, expertise which are required for the position.

Job Description

RESPONSIBLE TO: Dean of School

RESPONSIBLE FOR: N/A

PURPOSE OF POST: This post is required primarily to support delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the area of chemistry and forensic analysis. Some additional inter-professional support across the other undergraduate and postgraduate courses within the School may be required.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Deliver teaching in Chemistry and related areas including forensic analysis and in collaboration with module/course leaders.

Module coordinate and contribute to the teaching and assessment of Chemistry (and related topics) skills in an academic, laboratory and simulated learning environment.

Contribute to the development of teaching and assessment in Chemistry (and related topics) as part of a team.

Contribute to high quality research in Chemistry, or a related field.

Utilise technology to support and enhance learning.

Be responsible for the Health and Safety requirement for staff and students within Pharmaceutical and Analytical Chemistry laboratories.

Assist in planning of laboratory practical exercises and effective utilisation of resources. Undertake appropriate professional development.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of School.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Professional Memberships

Education to Doctoral level in Forensic Chemistry (or a related area for example Analytical Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry) and /or significant teaching experience in the subject area.

Knowledge and Experience

Knowledge and experience of learning and teaching approaches related to chemistry and forensic analysis.

Knowledge and experience of laboratory skills in chemical and analytical science.

Membership of relevant Professional Bodies.

Knowledge

Knowledge of learning and teaching approaches as well as laboratory skills in Forensic Analysis.

Experience

Relevant post-doctoral study and experience of independent grant success.

Relevant knowledge and experience of appropriate tools for online teaching delivery and support.

Relevant teaching experience to undergraduate and / or postgraduate students.
