We are looking to recruit a suitable candidate for the post of Physics Technician. The Physics team, part of the 3-18 Science Department, comprises four teachers and supports a large cohort of Higher and Advanced Higher students each year, as well as pupils from P7 upwards. This is a full-time, permanent role working on a term-time plus two weeks basis.
The postholder will support teaching in the Physics team, through the organisation, delivery and general maintenance of teaching equipment and materials and assemble experiments suitable for senior level pupils. Key tasks include the following:
- Organisation, delivery and set up of relevant equipment in the department as requested by staff.
- Organisation and supply of equipment to AH pupils working in the department. Knowledge of AH level experimental set ups is desirable but not necessary.
- Maintenance of equipment, including organisation of servicing with external companies.
- Carrying out PAT testing of electrical equipment (this does not include IT equipment). Training for this can be provided.
- Preparation of materials and equipment for classwork .
- Providing support for Co-Curricular and Super Curricular activities within Physics.
- Stock control and security of equipment.
- Assist in maintaining a safe working environment throughout the department by liaising with staff, in line with H&S documentation.
- Reporting Health & Safety issues that arise to the Principal Teacher, Head of Department and Facilities Team, where appropriate.
- Monitoring and control of radioactive materials.
- Purchase of materials and equipment for Physics, including monitoring and tracking of orders and budgets.
- Attendance at Team and Department meetings and whole school Inset programmes, where appropriate.
Applicants should have a good level of physical fitness, be flexible and hard working and enjoy collaborating with others. There is a team of Technicians working across the Science Department, and a collegiate and supportive approach is required. Knowledge of working in a school and/or knowledge of Physics is beneficial but not essential. A willingness to learn is key and the successful candidate would be expected to undertake relevant training.
In addition, the following experiences are desirable but not essential:
- First Aid certification
- Maintenance of electrical equipment
