Teacher of Biology (Maternity Cover)

Robert Gordon's College is an HMC independent co-educational day school and nursery in the heart of Aberdeen with around 1300 pupils aged 3-18. Robert Gordon’s College is looking to appoint a highly committed, enthusiastic Biology teacher to join a large and thriving team of teachers, supported by a specialist technician. The 3-18 Science Department delivers science education to our pupils from Primary 1 to Senior Phase, boasting sector leading facilities and outstanding achievements in both curricular and super-curricular activities.

This post offers the opportunity to work with interested and engaged pupils in a supportive, friendly and forward-thinking environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate a real enthusiasm for the subject; the ability to teach Advanced Higher Biology would be an advantage. Pupils are presented for National 5, Higher and AH examinations in Biology and Higher in Human Biology at Robert Gordon’s College. Biology, along with Chemistry and Physics, is taught as a separate subject in S1/S2 with pupils being taught by specialist teachers.

Teachers in the Science Department are expected to teach in both the Junior and Senior School, with our Junior pupils following a Science curriculum, and our senior pupils receiving lessons in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

In addition to a passion for the subject and the desire to inspire others, the successful candidate will also be involved in contributing to the wider life of the College.

This post is a maternity cover post which would be equally suitable for an experienced teacher or for a newly qualified teacher. This post will be available from November through to June 2027.

The successful candidate will have a sound knowledge of the Biology Scottish Curriculum courses and will be expected to contribute to the development of Biology at the College through an ability to undertake successfully the following tasks:

• To create an effective teaching and learning environment which offers support and encouragement to pupils;
• To be involved in developing teaching materials, planning courses and identifying departmental priorities;
• To maintain appropriate records of pupil performance and assessment;
• To share responsibility with all colleagues for the maintenance of good discipline, behaviour and conduct among pupils;
• To show commitment and enthusiasm in working as part of the Science Department; and
• To support the contribution made by the Biology Team to the broad-based curriculum of the College and also to the experience and skills development of its pupils.

Salary will be aligned with the national teaching pay rates, depending on experience.
