Are you passionate about improving the educational experiences, outcomes and life opportunities of Scotland’s children who are in need of care and protection? This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of the Centre for Excellence for Care and Protection’s (CELCIS), University of Strathclyde, Education Team.

You will work in partnership with the Scottish Government, local authorities and their partners, third sector and other key stakeholders to improve services and outcomes for children in need of care and protection, with a particular focus on children and young people’s education. The CELCIS Education team provides a focal point for the improvement of experiences and services nationally and locally through supporting whole systems change. This will involve working externally with key stakeholders across the sector using a range of improvement approaches to create sustainable change that is grounded in evidence based practice.

We are seeking a compassionate, caring and motivated individual to build on what we’ve already achieved within the CELCIS Education Team and be part of the next stage in our exciting work; progressing our education strategy. Building on policy and research developments in recent years around what we know works, this post specifically relates to our work in ensuring equity of access to further and higher education for all people with experience of care and utilising comprehensive and robust data collection and interpretation to drive improvement in this area. You will have the strong relationship building skills required to lead, support and encourage systemic, strategic and practice change. This post requires the ability to travel throughout Scotland. The successful post holder may work flexibly and/or remotely with the requirement to travel to CELCIS for regular meetings.

As with all posts in the team, the post is initially funded to the end of March 2020, and then subject to continued funding. Applications on a seconded basis are welcomed.

This post will report to Linda O’Neill, Education Lead.

About CELCIS

CELCIS is a leading improvement and innovation centre in Scotland. We improve children’s lives by supporting people and organisations to drive long-lasting change in the services they need, and the practices used by people responsible for their care.

We want to see a world where children and young people at risk of harm or in need of care and protection have safe, healthy, happy, and loving childhoods, and are supported to be all they hope to be.

We work alongside the people and organisations involved in providing care, protection and support through public, private, and voluntary services including social work, education, health, justice, and housing, across Scotland and around the globe. Together we take bold steps to improve the lives of the most vulnerable babies, children, their families, and young people.

Our real strength is in our people. Team CELCIS is a friendly and skilled group of people who share a commitment to making a real and lasting difference in young lives.
