Forensic Audio & Video Engineer

Police Scotland's Technical Support Unit provides and maintains advanced and highly specialised technical services to meet the complex requirements of Operational policing within Police Scotland.

This involves the securing of intelligence and evidence for the purpose of investigating all aspects of criminality. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced Forensic Audio/Video engineer to join our team.

You will be a strong team player with a flexible approach to the delivery of often time critical policing requirements. You will work in line with national ISO 17025 standards and the Forensic Science Regulator recommendations and a knowledge of these would be beneficial.

You will be involved in the recovery, processing and presenting of evidential material to court / public enquiries as well as supporting all aspects of the Technical Support Units evidential handling requirements.

Key purpose of the role:

• Audio and/or Video forensics experience
• Good interpersonal skills
• Confident presenter, ability to explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
• Recovery of Digital Evidence at Crime Scenes/Major Incidents
• On-site reconstructions
• Provide Specialist Technical Advice and Assistance
• Management and Maintenance of Equipment
• Management of Forensic Submissions, Risk Assessment and Decision Making
• Administrative and Customer Service
• Ability to provide comprehensive complex technical reports.
• Theoretical and practical knowledge of both digital and analogue systems

As a Forensic Audio & Video Engineer, you will be educated to a minimum of HNC level in a relevant technical discipline, with extensive post qualification experience and have a current driving licence as travel throughout Scotland is required.

About the Job:

This specialist role is within our Forensic A/V Laboratory Team based in the Edinburgh area who provide support throughout Scotland.

The role holder will be expected to demonstrate continual development in all key technical activities pertinent to this role, through training, competence, and proficiency testing programs. The role holder is expected to undertake all mandatory training requirements and to attend available courses and in-house training in addition to taking responsibility for their own continuing professional development.

Applicants should expect to deal with often unpleasant material (support is available if required).

Allowances

• Callout/standby: You will be required to participate in a standby/call out rota and you will be paid as follows: £36.40 per occurrence on the rota
• This is a full-time, permanent post which will require you to participate in a call out rota providing 24/7 365 day a year coverage to the force and this role will be Monday- Friday 0900-1700
• A driving licence is required for this role

If successful in this role, the role title on your contract will state "Technical Officer" instead of "Forensic Audio & Video Engineer"
