The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Central Staffing Assistant, based in flexible locations throughout Scotland. The positions available will be on fixed term contracts until the end of the current financial year, working an average of 38.5 hours per week following a shift pattern of 4 days on 4 days off. As the standard working week is 35 hours, in addition to basic salary, 3.5 hours are paid as Contractual Overtime with Out with Core Hours Allowance payable on shift patterns which incorporate weekend hours worked where required. A combination of office and home working is required across all positions. 

This is a full time post however applications from individuals seeking to work on a part time, job share or flexible working basis would be considered.  

This is an essential role within Central Staffing working in support of the Management Team with the primary objective of planning and arranging operational staffing availability within agreed levels. The post holder will work as part of a team and perform core staffing tasks to a high standard in planning and arranging availability throughout Scotland. Key to the role is accurate working, with attention to detail and working to deadlines and targets on a daily basis.  

Applicants are expected to meet the following essential criteria: 

Knowledge or experience of working with Kronos or other availability management system software. 

Self-motivated with the ability to work under own initiative whilst maintaining a flexible approach to working, with the ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet tight deadlines. Ability to work as part of a team and to also be able to motivate and support others. Good customer focus, with professional manner. 

Excellent numeracy, planning and organisational skills, with attention paid to detail. Good knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, particularly Word and Excel. Educated to VC level or equivalent experience.

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements.  A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated. 

This post is also subject to the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exemptions) Scotland Order 2013. Therefore, the successful candidate's will be subject to a Level 2 Disclosure record check through Disclosure Scotland.
