The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Fire Reach Facilitator, based in Lanarkshire on a 23-month contract. This is a temporary post opportunity based on funding for the role for a maximum of 23 months, working 30 hours per week.

This is a part-time post however applications from individuals seeking to work on a job share or flexible working basis would be considered.

Role Overview:

To facilitate the administration and delivery of the Fire Reach Programme in North Lanarkshire LSO Area, as part of Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) Lanarkshire Youth Engagement Strategy.

Functional Responsibilities/Key Tasks:

  • To support North Lanarkshire Youth Engagement projects which engage children and young people in activities which raise their awareness of fire, road and water safety, and which encourage positive social behaviour by fostering teamwork, raise confidence and personal motivation
  • To facilitate the engagement of children and young people within the Scottish education system
  • To support the reduction of deliberate fires and fire related anti-social behaviour through education and intervention activities consistent with the “Scottish Curriculum for Excellence”
  • To collect groups of School children in North Lanarkshire in an appropriate vehicle, drive them to a relevant SFRS location, and assist in delivery of class-based presentations
  • To promote fire, road and water safety awareness education as a means to provide a vehicle for motivation and behavioural change in the community
  • To maintain accurate records of SFRS staff involved with working with children and young people, whilst ensuring compliance with data protection and the protection of vulnerable groups, working in conjunction with Human Resources
  • To ensure sufficient, equipment, course materials and other information and resources are available for course delivery
  • To attend local meetings as appropriate in line with Prevention and Protection Directorate requirements as directed by the Crew Commander

Candidates must have experience of working as part of a team, with excellent time management skills and sound communication skills, both written and verbal and must possess organisation and prioritisation skills with the ability to work with minimal supervision. The candidate must be confident when delivering information to a large volume of adults and children as required by the role

The successful candidate must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and possess a full driving license. Candidates will require to pass an ICAT basic and will be placed onto a series of courses including Fire skills and Fireground supervision courses

Shift patterns will be based on a Monday – Friday role with core hours, however there may be a requirement to work flexibly and at weekends as required by the role, as per the terms and conditions of support staff.

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements.  A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.

This post is subject to the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exemptions) Scotland Order 2013. The successful candidate will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme and will be required to carry out regulated work with adults and children.
