The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Fire Safety Auditing Officer, based in McDonald Road Fire Station on a permanent basis.

This is a part-time opportunity, working 17.5 hours per week however applications from individuals seeking to work on a flexible working basis would be considered.

The successful candidate will be required to: conduct audits of premises fire risk assessments under the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005, inspect premises issued with a licence or registration, carry out site surveys and check fire strategies and plans as appropriate, identify fire hazards and risks and propose measures to reduce risks and improve fire safety and issue fire safety reports and notices, including statistical reports.

The successful candidate will be required to: develop a level of technical knowledge commensurate with the post, give advice in line with national and SFRS policy, legislation and guidance as requested, assist in the management of fire safety information by ensuring all daily activities are accurately recorded, adhere to time scales as directed, attend and participate in both internal and external training courses as required.

The successful candidate will be required to: establish and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external colleagues, practice and promote SFRS policies and procedures (for example fairness and equality and health and safety policies), meet key performance outcomes set for the post and carry out any other duties consistent with the post and as required by the Chief Officer.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of current fire safety legislation including Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006 with experience of producing written reports to a high standard, the ability to use IT effectively in collation, analysis and presentation of information including Word and Outlook, proven experience in recording and processing the results or outcomes of technical work such as audits and risk assessments.

Desirable criteria includes; successful completion of the Fire Safety Enforcement and Legislation module course or equivalent, a recognised qualification in Fire Safety or Health and Safety e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH, knowledge and understanding of SFRS Community Safety Policies and Procedures, corporate body membership and experience of carrying out fire safety inspections or equivalent.

Post-Specific Criteria is the ability to travel and hold a valid UK drivers’ licence is essential for the post.

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements.  A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.

This post is subject to the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exemptions) Scotland Order 2013. The successful candidate will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme and will be required to carry out regulated work with adults and children.
