The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Fire Safety Auditing Officer, based in the City of Glasgow on a permanent basis. The position will be based at Yorkhill Community Fire Station, however there may be a requirement to work from offices at Cowcaddens or Calton depending on staff availability. This is a full-time opportunity, working 35 hours per week however applications from individuals seeking to work on a part time, job share or flexible working basis would be considered.
The post holder will support the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service's Local Enforcement Delivery plan's by carrying out Fire Safety Audits, carrying out specific fire safety visits to relevant premises and assisting with consultations from partnership agencies on all fire safety related matters. The post holder will also be responsible for carrying out Fire Safety Audits within relevant premises to ensure duty holders are operating within their responsibilities under the Fire Scotland Act 2005. There will be a requirement to produce written reports providing feedback and guidance to duty holders. The Post Holder must be able to work effectively with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
We are looking for individuals with good interpersonal, written and verbal skills who can also demonstrate excellent organisational and communication abilities.
Candidates must have a knowledge of current fire safety legislation including Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006. They must have experience of producing written reports to a high standard and be able to use IT effectively in collation, analysis and presentation of information including Word and Outlook. Candidates must also have proven experience in recording and processing the results or outcomes of technical work such as audits and risk assessments.
Candidates must have a full driving licence and have the ability to travel.
Desirable Criteria includes: successful completion of the Fire Safety Enforcement and Legislation module course or equivalent, a recognised qualification in Fire Safety or Health and Safety e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH with a knowledge of SFRS Prevention and Protection Policies and Procedures, a Corporate body membership, and experience in working with the public and carrying out fire safety inspections or equivalent.
