The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Fire Safety Auditing Officer based at East, North and South Ayrshire LSO Area on a permanent basis. This is a part-time opportunity, working 17.5 hours per week, however applications from individuals seeking to work on a flexible working basis would be considered.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Fire Safety Auditing Officer to join our Prevention and Protection Directorate. The successful candidate will be required to carry out the role of an Auditing Officer across their designated area of Ayrshire. You will play a key role in improving public safety by carrying out fire safety audits in non-domestic premises, supporting compliance with the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and associated legislation.

A Fire Safety Auditing Officer for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) plays a vital role in protecting life, property, and the environment by ensuring that buildings and businesses comply with fire safety legislation. The job is focused on prevention and risk reduction rather than emergency response.
The successful candidate will carry out fire safety audits and inspections in non-domestic premises across Scotland in line with the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and associated regulations. The officer assesses fire risk, provides guidance, and enforces compliance where necessary to ensure the safety of occupants and responders.
The successful candidate will be required to conduct audits of business and public premises under the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006. Evaluate fire risk assessments and the adequacy of fire safety measures in place. Provide fire safety advice and guidance to duty holders and responsible persons. Use enforcement powers where appropriate, including issuing Enforcement Notices, Prohibition Notices, or preparing case files for legal proceedings. Maintain accurate records of inspections and audit outcomes using SFRS systems. Liaise with local authorities, building standards, licensing boards, and other relevant stakeholders. Support fire investigation activities where relevant to prevention. Promote fire safety through community engagement and partnership working. Stay updated with legislation, building regulations, and technical fire safety standards, Building Standards Technical Handbooks.
No previous experience is required, however an understanding of the UK Building Standards, building construction and Risk and Safety Auditing would be desirable.
Applicants will be required to travel across Ayrshire.

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements. A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.
