Fleet Support Driver/Labourer

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Fleet Support Driver/Labourer based at Inverness Asset Resource Centre (ARC) on a fixed-term basis until 31 March 2027.

There are two full-time opportunities, working 35 hours per week, however, applications from individuals seeking to work on a part time, job share or flexible working basis would be considered. Inverness ARC will be the base location, however, as a national resource, the successful applicant should be flexible regarding which ARC location they are allocated to in order to support leave cover and operational requirements.

Hours are flexible between 08:00 and 23:00 as required and are in compliance with road traffic driver hour regulations. Rotas will be scheduled in advance. The main activity will be the movement of Fire appliances and other operational vehicles from Station locations to the ARCs and return same.

The successful candidate will be required to assist in the roll out the new Emergency Services Network (ESN) platform and equipment to all SFRS (Scottish Fire and Rescue Services) operational Fire Appliances / Specialist vehicles and other designated cars and light Fleet.

Reporting to the Regional Workshop Manager and the National Fleet Coordinator, principal duties will be to assist Third Party Vehicle Installers in the delivery / pick up of SFRS vehicles from SFRS Stations and Departments. To assist a team of Mobile Device Fitters and general workshop staff in the preparation and installation of the services new communications system. This shall include collection of stock items and consumables to carry out the installations.

This post will be workshop based but will have a significant requirement for assisting the installation team on site at SFRS premises throughout the footprint of SFRS geographical Areas (East, West and North).

The post holder will assist in the logistics of removal of equipment and ensuring removed equipment is logged and stored appropriately prior to the installation of the new ESN equipment. The post holder is required to adhere to strict security protocols and audit requirements. Comply with Health and Safety requirements always and maintain and work within standards as laid down by VOSA and CFOA (VOSA = Vehicle Operators Standards Agency, CFOA = Chief Fire Officers Association).

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements. A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.
