The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Fleet Support Technician (HGV Mechanic), based at our Dundee Asset Resource Centre on a permanent basis.  This is an opportunity to progress your career working on a variety of vehicles and auxiliary equipment that support frontline service delivery to  communities throughout Scotland, working 35 hours per week over a compressed 4 day work pattern, Monday - Friday, alternating rota. 

TEAM A               Week 1 Mon–Wed 08.00–17.30, Thu 08.00–16.30

Week 2 Tue–Thu 08.00–17.30, Fri 08.00–16.30

TEAM B               Week 1 Tue–Thu 08.00 – 17.30, Fri 08.00–16.30

Week 2 Mon–Wed 08.00–17.30, Thu 08.00–16.30

This is a full-time post however applications from individuals seeking to work on a part time, job share or flexible working basis would be considered.

The successful candidate will be required to work in a busy workshop, looking after a large fleet of vehicles ranging from light commercial vehicles and cars through to HGV specialised fleet, together with a large portfolio of specialist operational equipment. Your day-to-day duties will include: carrying out diagnostic investigations, scheduled inspections, servicing and repairs as required on the vehicle fleet and equipment within the service. You will work to standards as laid down by DVSA (Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency) and NFCC (National Fire Chiefs Council) Guidelines.

As a requirement of the role, you must participate in the 24hr Stand-By rota operated by Fleet & Equipment Workshop West. The working week will be 35 hours over a compressed 4 day work pattern Monday - Friday. Previous experience of working in a busy Commercial Vehicle Workshop or Dealership is required. Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements.  A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.
