The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Operational Comms Engineer, based in North East Asset Resource Centre, Dundee on a permanent basis. This is a full-time opportunity, working 35 hours per week, however, applications from individuals seeking to work on a part time, job share or flexible working basis would be considered.

The successful candidate will be required to provide operational support, monitoring and maintenance of Scottish Fire and Rescue Services (SFRS) Operational Communications services that support core organisational functions. This includes the resolution of incidents, fulfilment of service requests and the implementation of changes via change enablement, all in line with ITIL framework principles. The post holder will also provide technical advice and assistance on any aspect of the SFRS operational comms systems.

In addition, the post comes with responsibility for the implementation and support of the SFRS’s Digital and Technology Services operational comms solutions, including mobilising systems, radio, paging station based mobilisation equipment, and operations 999 telephony systems. The postholder will apply proven communication, analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues to maximise the benefit of Digital and Technology Operational Services operational comms solutions investment.

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements. A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.

This post is also subject to the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exemptions) Scotland Order 2013. Therefore, the successful candidate's will be subject to a Level 2 Disclosure record check through Disclosure Scotland.
