Operational Comms Modern Apprentice
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Modern Apprentice Operational Comms Engineer, based in Dundee, Hamilton or Newbridge on a two year fixed term contract. This is a full-time opportunity, working 35 hours per week. The successful candidate will be expected to complete an EAL Diploma in Engineering at SCQF Level 7, provided by North Lanarkshire College.
The successful candidate will be required to maintain and repair SFRS mobilising systems and related equipment in conformance with organisational standards and guidelines, maintain and repair interfaces in Control Rooms to the radio and telephone bearer networks for data and voice signalling and maintain and repair communications systems. This includes remote hilltop equipment for voice, data and paging transmissions. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively and safely under the working at heights regulations and on a day-to-day basis be involved in the support and maintenance of: Mobilising systems, Telephony systems, Radios and radio systems, Mobile Data Solutions, Pagers and paging systems.

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements. A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.
This post is also subject to the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exemptions) Scotland Order 2013. Therefore, the successful candidate's will be subject to a Level 2 Disclosure record check through Disclosure Scotland.
