The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Workshop Operative, based in our Inverness Fleet and Equipment Workshops, North Service Delivery Area on a permanent basis. This is a part -time opportunity, working 23 hours per week, however applications from individuals seeking to work on a flexible working basis would be considered.
The successful candidate will be required to carry out all labouring and cleaning duties associated with the workshop premises and grounds. Adopt safe working practices within the workshops in relation to good Manual Handling techniques utilising mechanical/lifting aids supplied. Carry out driving duties as required, moving vehicles between SFRS locations as directed by SFRS Management/Supervisors. Ensure compliance with SFRS Health & Safety Policy and Procedures. To complete all paperwork/documentation as required, such as vehicle logbooks, defect recording, accident recording also to maintain labour records within Fleet Management system.
Essential criteria: A full valid British driving licence is required and a flexible approach to travelling and working throughout SFRS locations. Ability to follow procedure and take instruction from others. To be able to communicate effectively with internal and external customers and to meet tight deadlines. Previous experience of working within a workshop/engineering environment is essential.
Desirable Criteria: Experience in working with a varied range of power tools associated with the vehicle/Engineering trade.
Ideally candidate will work over 3 days, Tues-Thurs however this will be negotiable at Interview stage to meet Service Delivery requirements.

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements. A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.
