Training Instructor (Non-Uniformed)
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Non-Uniformed Instructor. These permanent, part-time opportunities are available across the Service Delivery Areas, including posts based in the East at Newbridge, in the West at the National Training Centre (NTC), and within the North Service Delivery Area, where the primary work location will align with the successful candidate’s home location.
Each post is offered on a permanent basis, working 17.5 hours per week.
We are seeking committed and knowledgeable Training Instructors to deliver high-quality technical and practical training across the East, West and North Service Delivery Areas. In these roles, you will plan, prepare and deliver a wide range of specialist training activities to SFRS staff and partner agencies, ensuring delivery meets national standards.
You will support course development, assess learner performance, maintain training records and contribute to the continuous improvement of training provision. These roles require strong organisation, adaptability and the ability to respond to emerging training needs at short notice. Training may be delivered both in person and remotely, depending on instructional qualifications and course requirements.
Adequate notice will always be provided where travel is required in the North Service Delivery area, including travel to Orkney, Shetland, the Western Isles and mainland training sites.
The successful candidates may be required to provide instructional support across multiple training centres required. The role involves working in varied and remote environments to meet training needs. Some evening, weekend and overnight stays will be required to support course delivery and operational training schedules. The postholder may also be required to transport vehicles and equipment to and from training sites.
Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements. A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.
This role involves working with adults and children. The successful candidate will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is an Equal Opportunities employer and encourage applications from all sectors of the community. In addition, we are committed to being a “Disability Confident Employer” and will ensure that all applicants who meet the essential criteria for the role are invited for interview.
