Job Description

The Relief Ice Guard and Multi‑Facility Assistant role is a customer‑facing, operational position that supports the safe and effective delivery of ice sessions and wider facility operations. The postholder is responsible for supervising and patrolling the ice during public skating, Learn to Skate, and proficient sessions to ensure customer safety and a positive experience. The role also involves supporting Ice Technicians with rink preparation, covering the skate hire office, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation in line with Active Stirling’s core values.

Requirements

• The postholder must demonstrate a high level of ice skating competence and be confident operating in an ice rink environment. They must be able to work effectively as part of a team, communicate clearly with customers and colleagues, and follow instructions, procedures, and safety guidance at all times. • A strong commitment to customer safety is essential, including adherence to Normal Operating Procedures, Emergency Action Plans, and relevant Health & Safety legislation. The role requires flexibility to work across multiple areas of the facility and to support different teams as required. • The postholder must be willing to undertake training and work towards relevant qualifications to support operational needs. Desirable experience includes working in an ice rink or leisure environment, customer service or reception roles, cash handling, and use of booking systems and basic IT systems. A positive attitude, reliability, and willingness to learn are essential.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include supervising and patrolling the ice to ensure customer safety and compliance with usage guidelines, providing a visible and reassuring presence during ice sessions. The postholder will assist Ice Technicians with rink preparation and support the skate hire operation, ensuring customers are correctly fitted with skates and equipment and that enquiries are handled professionally. The role also involves delivering a high standard of customer service across the facility, assisting Sports Attendants, the Gym Team, and Customer Service Team when required. Maintaining cleanliness and presentation of equipment and areas throughout the facility is a core responsibility. The postholder is expected to follow all policies, procedures, and safety requirements, attend training and team meetings, and contribute positively to team working and service improvement.
