About us
Cabinet Office Finance is responsible for business and financial planning, performance reporting, in-year financial management, financial accounting, management of Parliamentary Supply, and production of the Cabinet Office’s annual accounts.
The Business Partner teams lead engagement with business units across the department. We need to be resourceful, exercise good judgement and have quick reflexes to make sure that senior leaders have the right financial advice at the right time to deliver important and urgent parts of the Government’s agenda.
Your work with us
As Finance Business Partner, you’ll be key to the relationship between the finance function and individual business areas.
With each business area, you’ll seek to develop a deep understanding of their needs and priorities. You’ll then contextualize these within the bigger picture, provide analysis and benchmarking to highlight opportunities and add value. This will mean that a business is clear on the financial implications of decisions and choices available to them.
You’ll support businesses further through financial analysis to prepare for Spending Reviews, risk management and business planning processes. As well as through identifying sustainable cost savings targets and initiatives as part of the business planning cycle.
You will lead on financial reporting – analysing information and preparing summary reports. These will be designed to help Cabinet Office leaders make decisions based on accurate financial information. Additionally, you’ll provide advice in accordance with international financial reporting standards and central government accounting rules.
As line manager to a business partner team, you’ll demonstrate effective leadership. We’d also like you to build financial and commercial awareness of non-finance staff within the business.
Who we are looking for
To be suited to the role, you’ll have well-developed interpersonal and communication skills. You’re comfortable engaging with colleagues at all levels and have experience in gaining credibility with senior stakeholders.
You’ve led high-performing, diverse and inclusive teams, encouraging everyone to bring their best performance.
It’s key that you have a proven, high level of competency in budget management, planning, forecasting and risk identification. This is paired with excellent problem-solving and technical accounting skills across a wide range of financial disciplines, which you’ve applied effectively.
It would be beneficial if you’re aware of government finance and fiscal events such as spending reviews.
We are interested in seeing a CCAB or equivalent qualification.
The benefits you’ll receive
Join us, and you’ll get a comprehensive Civil Service package designed to support your career, wellbeing and work–life balance. This includes generous annual leave, a highly competitive pension scheme, flexible working options and enhanced maternity, paternity and parental support. You’ll also have access to strong staff networks, wellbeing initiatives, professional development opportunities and, where available, onsite facilities such as fitness centres and canteens.
We value diversity and inclusion and actively encourage and welcome applications from everyone, including those who are underrepresented in our workforce. We promote equality of opportunity in all aspects of employment and a working environment free from discrimination, harassment, bullying and victimisation.
Closing date: 19 March 2026.
