Introduction


Our hospice at Rachel House in Kinross operates around the clock to provide care and support for families with children who have life shortening illnesses. The maintenance team at Rachel House work hard to deliver a high quality support service to ensure there is no interruption to normal day to day activities in the hospice. This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity working Monday to Friday based on a standard 35 hour week.


Key Responsibilities


Your duties would involve assisting the Maintenance Team Leader to carry out routine maintenance and deal with day to day repairs including joinery, plumbing, painting and decorating, and mechanical work. You may also be involved with helping the Gardener maintain the grounds. You will preferably have previous experience of working with volunteers. An understanding of COSHH would be advantageous.


About You


You will have the equivalent of several years’ experience in a similar role or SVQ3 or equivalent in a relevant subject as well as an aptitude towards practical DIY skills. Ideally you will hold a qualification in electrical, plumbing or gas fitting work and will have a working knowledge of Health and Safety law. Additionally, you will be involved in the management of the fire alarm system and our Jacuzzi pool.

You must have the ability to work unsupervised and be able to prioritise tasks. You will have good interpersonal skills and a flexible approach to problem solving. You should hold a current driving license and live within reasonable travelling distance of the hospice. It is expected you will have a working knowledge of computers.

We have a 3:1 ratio of volunteers to staff members in CHAS. All CHAS staff will at some point work with or alongside volunteers and will be expected to support volunteers.
