Job Description
The Scottish Local Government Pension Scheme Advisory Board (SAB) plays a vital role in advising on scheme design and the implications of national pension policy.
We are now seeking an experienced, motivated, and enthusiastic professional to take on an important part‑time role (60% FTE) supporting our core work. This is a unique chance to contribute to an area of real national significance. As our new team member, you will work directly with the SAB Joint Secretaries, helping to shape discussions and influence outcomes that impact local government pension provision across Scotland.
The 11 administrating Pension Funds in Scotland currently manage around £75 billion of assets for the Scottish LGPS.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you will:
• Prepare high‑quality reports, briefings, correspondence, and key papers.
• Support SAB working groups as they explore emerging challenges and opportunities.
• Engage confidently with a wide range of stakeholders, local elected officials, government departments, and regulatory bodies.
• Contribute to meaningful discussions in a vital sector.
What We’re Looking For
While pensions expertise is not essential, you must be able to quickly get to grips with complex issues and communicate them clearly.
Why Join Us?
• Be at the heart of high‑profile policy work.
• Enjoy flexibility in your working hours.
• Play a part in shaping the future of the Local Government Pension Scheme in Scotland.
• Work in a supportive environment where your contributions matter.
You will be required to attend meetings of the SAB, working groups, and other LGPS fund meetings where appropriate. The role will be hosted by COSLA and based in a central Edinburgh office with the option for hybrid working in line with business need.
This is a 12‑month fixed‑term position in the first instance. As this is part-time role there is significant flexibility about agreement on part time hours that suit the successful candidate.
