The COVEY Board of Trustees currently seeks to fill three Trustee vacancies before the end of the current financial year, 31st March 2025.

COVEY (Community Volunteers Enabling You) is a lifeline for children, young people, and families across Lanarkshire. Since 1992, we have provided 1-1 and group-based befriending, mentoring, and family support services tailored to those who need it the most. Please view our short impact video here: https://youtu.be/ZavCvcz8VVQ?si=10_fGpoiN1P-4eIO

Our Board of Trustees bring wide ranging skills, knowledge, expertise and passion to the organisation. Working closely with the Chief Executive and Leadership Team of the charity, the Board is responsible for the legal and operational oversight of the charity, ensuring that it is financially sustainable, has strong governance and safeguards against risk to protect its reputation and that it delivers against its strategy and charitable objectives.

We have created a supportive, welcoming Board of Trustees and will give you the support you need to be able to get the best out of this experience.

Applications are encouraged from groups currently under-represented on charity Boards in Scotland. The Board would particularly welcome applications from people with at least one of the following areas of expertise:

  • HR / Employment Law - A Trustee with expertise in assisting in the review of HR policies and staff handbook as well as offering guidance on staffing and recruitment.
  • Legal - A Trustee with the ability to help in confidently scrutinising contractual funding/ partnership delivery documents.
  • Senior Leadership - A Trustee with leadership and service delivery experience in the charity or public sector particularly within Family Support organisations.

This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual. You will have the opportunity to use and develop your skills and experience to support children and families across Lanarkshire and beyond.

The role will involve attending six board meetings per year including preparation time. In addition, you may be invited to be involved in the Finance, Risk and Audit (FRA) subcommittee, depending on your skills and interests.

The position is voluntary, however reasonable travel expenses are reimbursed.

Location: Meetings of the Board are normally held midweek in East Kilbride between 6.00 – 8.30pm.

Application notes: Please submit a copy of your CV, along with a Covering Letter explaining why you’re applying and what skills and experience you could bring to the trustee role at COVEY. Please send this to recruitment@coveybefriending.org.uk

Closing date: 21 February 2025

Interviews: Will be held online early evening on a convenient date w/c 3 March 2025

Induction: An informal, online induction session will be held on an evening that is convenient w/c 24 March 2025.

If you wish to arrange an informal discussion with the Chair of our Board, Ian McLaughlan MBE or with our Chief Executive, Lee Johnstone, please email Carol Sanderson, Office Manager, at c.sanderson@coveybefriending.org.uk
