We’re looking for an Energy and Sustainability Officer to support Edinburgh Leisure’s journey towards our 2030 Net Zero Carbon target. This is a varied role where you’ll work with people, data and systems to help reduce carbon, improve energy awareness and support more sustainable choices across our venues.
What You’ll Do:
- Support the delivery of our Net Zero Carbon 2030 plan through research, campaigns, training and events.
- Work with venues, Green Champions and colleagues to support venue sustainability action plans and encourage practical, sustainable behaviours.
- Use data from energy management systems, supplier portals, meter readings and other sources to monitor usage and spot issues.
- Support data analysis, reporting and record-keeping to help track progress and improve data quality.
- Research sustainability best practice, funding opportunities and ideas that could help reduce carbon.
- Create clear content for internal channels, newsletters, training, campaigns and updates.
- Support active travel initiatives, including events, partnerships and staff engagement.
- Support practical sustainability projects, including waste reduction, recycling, biodiversity and nature-positive initiatives.
What You’ll Bring:
- A degree-level qualification in Sustainability or a related subject, or at least 3 years’ experience in sustainability, carbon, climate change, energy, active travel or staff engagement.
- Knowledge of climate change, sustainability and carbon reporting principles.
- Confidence using IT systems, including Microsoft Office or similar tools, with the ability to learn energy management systems and supplier portals.
- Research and analysis skills, with the ability to work with data and turn information into clear updates, reports or recommendations.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage, present, inform and influence others in a friendly and practical way.
- A curious and proactive approach, with the confidence to ask questions, challenge assumptions and look for better ways of doing things.
- Good organisation skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
Working Arrangements:
The working hours for this role are Monday to Thursday, 8:00 to 16:00, and Friday, 8:00 to 14:15. The role will mainly be based between Carron Place in Leith and Meadowbank Sports Centre, with some travel to other Edinburgh Leisure venues when needed. There will also be some flexibility to work from home.
What We Offer:
- Generous holiday allowance (32 days, rising with service up to 40 days)
- Company pension (with employee contributions matched up to 12%)
- Paid sick leave
- Opportunities for training, career growth and development
- Free membership across all our centres with access to fitness classes, gyms, and swimming pools
- Cycle-to-work scheme
- Access to discounts with a huge number of retailers (saving money in cinemas, restaurants, clothing, and electronics shops, on insurance and healthcare and much more)
Closing Date - Wednesday, 16th of September
Assessment Date – Monday, 28th of September
Assessment Location - Meadowbank Sports Centre
