JA001 - Personal Support Assistant

Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and compassionate escort/support worker for a vulnerable young person. The role involves supporting safe travel to and from college and providing assistance during attendance at college 2.5 days per week, during term time. 

Roles and Responsibilities

Support the young person to travel safely to and from college. Accompany the young person during journeys using agreed transport arrangements. Provide reassurance, supervision, and emotional support as required. Support attendance, punctuality, and engagement at college. Assist the young person in accessing classrooms and college facilities where necessary. Promote the young person’s independence, confidence, and wellbeing. Maintain professional communication with parents/carers, college staff, and relevant professionals. Monitor and report any safeguarding, welfare, behavioural, or health concerns in line with procedures. Support the implementation of agreed care plans, risk assessments, and behavioural support strategies. Maintain appropriate boundaries, confidentiality, and professionalism at all times. Respond calmly and appropriately in situations of distress, anxiety, or dysregulation. Ensure the young person’s safety and wellbeing throughout all activities and transitions.

Qualifications

Experience working with vulnerable children or young people in an educational, care, or support setting. Experience supporting young people with additional needs, SEND, autism, ADHD, mental health needs, or learning difficulties. Ability to build positive, professional relationships with young people.

Preferred Skills

Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Calm, patient, and compassionate approach. Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy. Ability to work independently and follow care/support plans.
