Employer Liaison Advisers: Scotland and South East England

When you see the words “Professional Healthcare Regulation” do you think of support, fairness and putting patients interests first? Do you want a role where no two days are the same? If so you may be interested in reading on.

The GMC helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. We support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards, and take action when they are not met.

Our team of Employer Liaison Advisers meet with healthcare organisations across the NHS and independent sectors to ensure that senior medical leaders are properly supported in all aspects of medical regulation, particularly in relation to our fitness to practise work and the revalidation of doctors. You will be an important representative for the GMC, maintaining strong and resilient relationships with a diverse range of external stakeholders, medical directors/responsible officers and their teams in their regions at a time of significant change, both within the GMC and, importantly, within the health sector as a whole.

This is a key role for the GMC and will require outstanding relationship management skills, together with an ability to grasp the technical nature of our work; an important part of the role being the ability to explain this cogently and accurately. You will be expected to be able to discuss and advise on sensitive and complex issues with senior medical leaders, and must be comfortable with handling the detail of individual cases in relation to a doctor’s fitness to practise and revalidation recommendations.

This is an opportunity to undertake challenging and rewarding work as part of a well-supported and high performing senior team. If you have excellent relationship management skills and the ability to get to grips with the detail of our regulatory framework we would welcome your application.

You must be able to work independently as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The role involves regular travel around your region and to GMC offices in Manchester and London. Some overnight stays will be expected. The Scotland ELA sits within our GMC Scotland team therefore attendance at the office in Edinburgh is required once a month. A significant amount of the first three to four months in post will be an induction period where we will provide comprehensive training for the role and this will be provided both in person and virtually.

The GMC values diversity and has made a public commitment to processes and procedures that are fair, objective, transparent and free from discrimination.

Diversity of background and experience contributes to a broader collective perspective. It is only through building an inclusive and diverse workforce that we can continue to excel as an effective and relevant regulator; constantly improving in our mission to protect patients and support doctors. We are focused on developing a diverse and inclusive organisation; one that reflects the doctors that it works with and the public that it represents.

We recognise the value that lived experience brings, alongside skills and knowledge, and actively encourage those with diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply to work with us. You can read more about our approach to this here

To be eligible to apply for the South East England( Kent, Surrey and Sussex) role, an applicant must live in or within five miles of the region. For the Scotland role, an applicant must live within central Scotland.

In return, you’ll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. Within our friendly environment, you will have access to a range of learning and development opportunities designed to support your ongoing progression. We offer an attractive salary and benefits package to find out more please click here.

The GMC is happy to support a range of flexible working options. Flexible working requests will be considered in line with the policy.

If you are interested in applying for this role, please submit a detailed covering letter and CV which demonstrates your reason for applying and how you can meet the essential skills listed in the job description.
