Location: This post is a full-time and student-facing position. You will be based at the HISA office in UHI Orkney in Kirkwall, although the nature of your role may require you to spend time at other UHI partnership locations on occasion. The expectation is that you will be in the office 3-4 days per week as a minimum, especially during the academic term. Working from home arrangements can be more flexible outside of this time and should be discussed with your Line Manager, so the needs of the organisation are met.

Main purpose of role

The Students’ Association for the Highlands and Islands is a membership-led organisation and its primary purpose is to be the recognised representative of students to the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI). To do this effectively, it is crucial that the student voice of our members is strong and heard by the institutions.

The main purpose of this role is to facilitate and enhance student engagement through communication with students, elected Officers, staff, and external stakeholders to further the improvement of the student experience. As the face of the Students’ Association at the local partner, the postholder is required to be primarily based on campus to undertake these duties.

The role will work closely with their Development Manager, the line manager of the position, to assess the student needs within that partnership and work on ways to deliver this. They will be a point of contact for Association activities at the local Academic Partner, which is supported by the Development Managers and the Regional teams.

Key Responsibilities

· Be the first point of contact for students at the Academic Partner, encouraging them to get involved in the Students’ Association and extra-curricular activity

· Supporting and creating the in-person

· As directed by the Development Manager, support the following activities, this list is not exhaustive:

o the Officers’ inductions;

o the Officers in undertaking their manifestos;

o the delivery of departmental campaigns;

o Freshers planning and delivery;

o the delivery of induction presentations;

o the activities, communications and running of the Student Voice Representative (SVR) system; including attending the monthly Association SVR meetings;

o the Student Voice Representatives (SVR) training and support;

o the elections;

o gathering feedback from students;

o the creation and development of local clubs, societies and activities

· Develop relationships with key members of staff within the Academic Partner and key external stakeholders

· Work collaboratively with other Association staff members as and when required for the development of the organisation and key student engagement strategies

· Supported by the Advice Service Coordinator provide advice and guidance where appropriate; signpost more complex cases to the Advice Service or other support and guidance for any academic/pastoral issues;

· Undertake key administrative duties such as managing shared email inboxes, tracking finances, generating reports and keeping records for Student Voice Rep engagement and meetings

General

The exact responsibilities will change from time to time and the postholder is required to undertake any additional duties are deemed appropriate to the role, which may include management of additional staff.

·Promote a positive and professional image of the Association to its members, customers, stakeholders and other external people

· Actively engage in student-facing projects and activities of all kinds as required

· Work at all time within relevant legislation as well as structures, policies and procedures

· Work co-operatively with other Association staff and Officers as appropriate, as well as relevant organisations

· Adhere to the highest standards, especially of customer service and safety

· Undertake necessary training and development and to attend all meetings as requested

· Positively contribute to the organisation’s ethical and environmental ethos

· It may be necessary for the postholder to work out of hours on occasion e.g. to cover events and extended office opening hours. A system of time off in lieu will operate to cover this

· A degree of travel between campuses will be expected
