Development Manager - The Isle of Luing Community Trust

- Salary: £35,000 + pension contribution 3%, leave allowance 25 days

The Isle of Luing Community Trust is a charitable organisation with the key objectives of sustainable development and increasing economic opportunities on Luing. The Trust operates the successful Atlantic Islands Centre in Cullipool village and is committed to developing further opportunities through additional revenue generating projects. We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and confident Development Manager with experience of delivering complex regeneration projects to join us to deliver three key projects: -
- Planning and developing a small-scale roofing slate production enterprise
- Developing and delivering new affordable housing on Luing
- Managing delivery of new community initiatives to meet our Net Zero ambitions

The role
The Board is seeking an experienced, motivated, enthusiastic person to deliver our three key projects, including all aspects of cost, process, community engagement stakeholder management and delivery.
- Developing sustainable, artisanal roofing slate production on the Isle of Luing, starting with preparation for a planning application in late 2022, managing grant funding applications with the aim to start small scale production in 2024.
- Planning and development of a small quarrying operation with an environmentally secure production unit and facilities for learning and tourist interaction.
- The acquisition of land and build of up to initially, four housing units.
- The delivery of accessible social housing units to attract families and workers to the island and for resident workers
- Work with the community to create and deliver projects to contribute to Net Zero ambitions for Luing
- Be the primary interface for the definition and delivery of our development plans to the Board directors and partner agencies.
- With the support of Trust directors, develop effective engagement and communications with the community and other stakeholders.
- Engage and manage partners, suppliers and contractors to support the agreed plans.
What We Will Need You to Bring
- Experience in managing regeneration/economic development
- Previous involvement in overseeing funded regeneration programmes.
- Experience of making business grant funding applications.
- An ability to build positive and professional relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- An understanding of the challenges for smaller communities and use this to make transformational changes.
- Experience in effective engagement with communities, businesses, senior leadership team and Council members.
- An ability to participate in complex negotiations for commercial contracts relating to regeneration and construction.
- A creative ability to solve problems and design processes.
