Job Title: Sustainable Tourism Manager
Salary: £42,721 - £49,797 (Band E) per annum
Working Hours: 35 hours per week - we are happy to talk part time and flexible working.

Location: Balloch, with hybrid working model in place
The Role:
The Sustainable Tourism Manager will provide leadership and inspiration in developing and managing the delivery of sustainable tourism functions and related partnership activity for the National Park Authority.
The successful candidate will play a key role in leading and supporting work with our tourism businesses that supports the National Park to be a thriving place that is nature positive and carbon negative. This will include working on a range of projects, partnerships and collaborations bringing expert insight and experience to support positive change.
Responsibilities:
- Lead Strategic Tourism Projects: Drive the development of innovative tourism initiatives that align with the National Park Partnership Plan and other related frameworks, ensuring they support sustainable tourism principles.
- Effective Project Coordination: Manage tourism functions and projects in line with Annual and Corporate plans, ensuring optimal use of staff, financial resources, and strategic priorities.
- Teamwork: Collaborate to develop integrated partnerships with internal teams, including Communications & Marketing, to identify and secure relevant media, brand partnerships and project opportunities that amplify the National Park’s vision and work.
- Expert Advice and Insight: Provide expert advice and advocacy on tourism, commercial activity, and related issues and opportunities - ensuring ongoing development and monitoring of all related activities in line with broader environmental goals.
- Foster Collaborative Relationships: Cultivate and nurture relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, ensuring strong collaboration with public, private, and third sector partners, including local tourism operators, , landowners and local communities. This engagement will help to implement the Park’s tourism strategies and drive impactful change.
- Project Coordination and Leadership: Manage tourism projects efficiently, ensuring that staff and financial resources are optimised to deliver successful outcomes. Lead the operational delivery of these projects, while also embedding sustainability into every aspect of the tourism offering.
- Innovative Solutions for Tourism: Continually identify and implement innovative solutions to improve tourism-related projects, capitalising on emerging opportunities to foster sustainability and greener practices within the tourism sector.
- Secure Funding and Resources: Play a pivotal role in identifying funding opportunities, securing external financial support, and managing budgets to ensure the successful delivery of tourism projects.
- Other Duties: Undertake any additional tasks as required that align with the role and contribute to the overarching objectives of the team
Who we are looking for:
Your skills, abilities and experience should include:
- Demonstrable experience of leading innovative projects and initiatives which support the visitor economy
- Experience of initiating, developing and managing projects, including success in securing and managing external funding
- Success in team and people leadership
- A track record of sound budget management experience
- Experience in partnership working and delivery of partnership projects, particularly where engaging with tourism businesses and operators
- Strong knowledge of the Scottish and UK tourism sector.
- The ability to sensitively manage stakeholder relationships across public, private and the third sector, as well as local interests in a high scrutiny environment
- Articulate with excellent interpersonal skills
- The ability to think strategically and prepare convincing strategies, reports, recommendations and business cases to achieve strategic outcomes
- Good analytical and organisational skills with the ability to adapt and respond to new requirements
- Degree in a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience,
Ideally but not essential you will also have:
- Experience of working in partnerships and in multi-disciplinary teams to achieve shared objectives
- Experience of securing commercial partnerships such as sponsorships,
- Knowledge of the strategic context within which National Parks operate, and the compliance environment within which public bodies operate.
- Understanding of the rural tourism sector and the recreational, economic and social value of the outdoors
- Ability to negotiate and secure advice in respect of commercial contracts
- Corporate Membership of relevant professional body
