We are recruiting for Casual Transition Mentors to join our Supported Accommodation programme in South Ayrshire.

Supported Accommodation South Ayrshire aims to support the local authority’s goal of reducing levels of repeat homelessness by providing a high-quality housing support service in Ayr. The Casual Transition Mentor will provide ongoing support and be a positive role model for young people and support them to access opportunities, engage positively within their communities through social activities and inclusion, promote positive social network and encourage engagement with friends and family as appropriate.

Main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Provide on-going support and act as a positive role model for young people who are involved with the Service.
  • Be the key person to support young people to identify, plan and achieve their life goals using a range of person centred and holistic approaches to achieve identified outcomes.
  • Support young people to access opportunities to engage positively within their communities through social diversionary activities and inclusion, promote positive social network and encourage engagement with friends and family as appropriate.
  • Work directly with young people to gain their trust and to support them to engage in learning experiences that promote their educational attainment, academic qualifications, self confidence, independent living skills and resilience.
  • Promote active and responsible citizenship, including being a responsible tenant.
  • Monitor and record to a high level of detail and accuracy the assessment and progress of young people supported in the service. Produce and present reports as requested, relating to individual young people’s progress.

Our values make us who we are and define our actions and behaviours every day. We’d expect the post-holder to uphold and represent our organisation in a way that reflects our values and person-centred way of working.

We’re looking for someone that has an understanding of what people are going through when facing homelessness and how this affects their day-to-day lives. You will have a compassionate nature, be non-judgemental and be willing to learn and you will be an excellent communicator and be able to build trusting relationships with the young people we support. You will have a desire to access relevant training and development opportunities and you will also have good IT and keyboard skills.

Sample shift times include:

2pm - 10pm, 10pm - 8am, 4pm - 12pm

What you can expect from us...

  • The post holder will report to the Depute Project Worker.
  • The hours we offer you will be ad hoc and infrequent. You will work for Right There at times and on days to be agreed between you and Right There.
  • Your core place of work will be 42 Chalmers Road, Ayr, KA7 2JQ
  • In accordance with the Working Time Regulations, you are entitled to be paid for annual leave. You are entitled to 6 weeks in a full annual leave year. Payment for annual leave is calculated based on 13.04% of your total pay in a pay period and will be paid in addition to wages accrued for that month. This includes if you leave your position at Right There part way through a pay period.
  • Casual Workers are assessed and enrolled into a pension if they meet the auto-enrolment criteria

About Us

We are Right There, a charity that recently celebrated our 200th anniversary. We provide tailored support for people, at home, and in the community. We are here for people who are living with the effects of homelessness, poverty, substance use, or family breakdowns.

Last year we supported almost 4,000 individuals, helping to prevent them from becoming homeless or separated from the people they love. Every person’s story is unique, and everyone’s route home is different - it doesn’t matter what the situation is – we’re not here to judge, only to help.
