About the role

An exciting opportunity to work with us as a Senior Project Officer working alongside Dumfries & Galloway Council. Line Managed by Sustrans Partnerships Manager and task managed by Dumfries & Galloway Council. Having completed the first phase of supporting Dumfries and Galloway’s Active Travel Strategy, the role will move into a second phase which will have a stronger focus on project delivery. You will work in partnership and across departments with external organisations which is a key role to detect and progress opportunities for investment in active travel.

You will be facilitating key support in progressing and delivering of active travel policies and proposals. In doing this you will build and manage internal and external relationships with key people within the Council.

This role will require travel and work at locations as necessary to undertake projects on behalf of Sustrans. Candidates should be based within the Scotland area with regular travel expected to Dumfries & Galloway offices at Dumfries and Galloway Council, Cargen Tower, Garroch Business Park, Dumfries, DG2 8PN (at least 4 days per week) with possible flexibility to work from home a proportion of the time.

About you

You will be skilled in being able to develop concept designs for active travel infrastructure projects, working on your own and within a team. With the need to prioritise complex and varied workloads. In addition a confidence in your ability to build relationships with a wide range of people within local authority as well as through community engagement and project delivery.

You should have experience in one of the following or with similar transferable skills: transport and land use planning, urban design, sustainable transport project delivery and traffic engineering.

Within the role you will demonstrate your knowledge of active sustainable travel and use experience to develop concept designs for active travel infrastructure projects either individually or as part of a design team. Also, competent in using GIS (geographic information system) mapping.
