The School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedic Practice is a vibrant academic community and the main provider of both undergraduate and postgraduate nursing, midwifery and paramedic education in the North of Scotland. As a Lecturer in Advanced Practice, you will join a motivated team of academics, providing high quality and impactful teaching and learning across the School. With knowledge, experience and skills as well as a postgraduate qualification in Advanced Practice in a relevant subject, you will be expected to contribute to the School’s postgraduate healthcare education portfolio. As a registered advanced practitioner, you should have excellent communication and teaching skills and be able to motivate and inspire students. All of our education is evidence-based and we encourage curiosity and innovation in our staff to enhance our academic portfolio. Opportunities to undertake or contribute to applied health or educational research are promoted. You may also be able to get involved in the School’s commercialisation activities.

Grade 7 Salary Scale: £38,205 - 44,263 (1 August 2023)
Grade 8 Salary Scale: £45,585 – 54,395 (1 August 2023)
Candidates with limited or no prior experience as an academic will be placed on the first point of the Grade 7 scale. Consideration will be given to offering an Academic Attraction Payment (adjusted annually) for those candidates who have specific industry knowledge, skills or, expertise which are required for the position.

JOB DESCRIPTION
RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal Lecturer, Postgraduate Taught Portfolio
RESPONSIBLE FOR: No line management responsibility
PURPOSE OF THE POST: The lecturing role is predominantly to contribute to the postgraduate Advancing Practice provision as well as the wider under and postgraduate programmes, post registration CPD, scholarly activity and research.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Carries out designated teaching (e.g., via lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops, laboratory work, field trips, studio work, practical’s etc) and assessment duties in areas of expertise, or as otherwise required by the Dean of School.
• Participates in the development and preparation of teaching materials.
• Provides tutorial and personal guidance for students.
• Supervises undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
• Develops and maintains expertise in subject areas. Participates in subject and course development.
• Undertakes appropriate administrative responsibilities (e.g., year tutor, student selection, assessment co-ordination, placement organisation, timetabling, maintaining attendance records etc).
• Assist in the supervision of students as appropriate.
• Promotes and markets the School and its courses to local, national, and international clientele (including student recruitment).
• Maintains working relationships with other Schools/Departments/Units within the University, as necessary, for the smooth operation and continued development of the School and its courses.
• Actively pursues and/or encourages research activities (e.g., writing for publication, developing own research, supervising research students, establishing externally funded research projects, presenting at conferences etc).
• Actively participates in and suggests relevant staff development activities. Engages with other staff, and wherever possible, in consultancy activities relevant to the School.
• Establishes and maintains relevant professional and industrial links, as necessary, for the effective operation of the School's courses (e.g., engagement in work of external bodies, educational and professional).
• Represents the School on relevant University committees and the School and University on external committees.
• Carries out such other related duties as may be required.

Person Specification
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and Professional Memberships
- Current registration as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) or a registered healthcare professional with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Postgraduate Advanced Practice Qualification including non-medical prescribing.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of relevant NMC / HCPC Standards for postgraduate education and training.
Experience
- Current clinical and/or educational experience relevant to advanced practice.
- Previous experience of supporting or teaching students.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and Professional Memberships
- PhD or Masters degree in relevant discipline.
- PGCert in Teaching and Learning or equivalent / willing to work towards achieving this.
Knowledge
- Knowledge and awareness of current policy and priorities relevant to advanced professional healthcare practice.
Experience
- Evidence of participating in / leading research studies, quality improvement projects, service evaluations or clinical audits.
- Evidence of teaching and learning / practice education in healthcare.
